Kawasaki Robot Cell: Adhesive bonding to car panels for major sports car manufacturer

The Kawasaki robot will automatically apply an adhesive bead to the roof, side and rear panels of a prestigious sports car for body assembly of Coupe and Convertible models. The full system designed and supplied by AMT including loading trolleys, nests, adhesive pumping and metering, guarding and programming.

The system incorporates 4 mobile trolleys with CNC machined nests to locate the body panels accurately. The trolley's are moved into their respective cell locators for bonding.

The 6 axis Kawasaki robot with its adhesive gun will automatically apply adhesive to the four panel types with a repeatable bead size at the correct ratio in the same programmed positions. When finished the trolleys will be released and transported to the line for assembly.

Adhesive application equipment with a static mixer will mix and meter the two component adhesive to the correct ratio. High quality ratio metering and flow control utilised. The automatic gel timer will purge the gun if the adhesive is passed its set open time.

Although low production volumes, a robot system with high quality adhesive metering is essential for the repeatable quality.
