NEW EMBLEM IS CHOSEN
|
The emblem for Rhydycroesau depicts an English lion and Welsh dragon standing on the village bridge. Villagers are now to turn the drawing into a framed collage which will take pride of place in the new village hall.
Rhydycroesau Project Group won a £1,860 grant from the Awards for All section of the Big Lottery Fund. The money was awarded to help produce a village emblem and to hold three craft workshops.
The competition was judged by three local artists - Mary Cannah, John Neilson, and Councillor George Jones - with the winning entry announced at a coffee evening held in Llansilin Memorial Hall.
The winner of the competition was Sue Jackson with her design of an English lion and Welsh dragon standing on Rhydycroesau bridge united by a chalice bearing the word Ffrind or friend.
The emblem will be made by members of Rhydycroesau's 'Natter Jenny' sewing group and when completed it will be framed and hung in the new hall.
The craft workshops, tutored by Joanna Davis of Oswestry's Project Group, will also be held in the extended hall when it is reopened.
