NEW GATES at Rhydycroesau Hall. These gates now guarding a building site will grace the entrance to the new enlarged Village Hall later in the year. They were a local team effort: Hugh and David Lloyd of Cefn-y-Maes, took out the old gates and widened the opening by taking out some of the old wall. Then Roland Davies of Cefn Berallt built up the wall to make it good.
Meanwhile back at the farm Hugh and David did the metal work to make the gates, while Gordon Jones, on the Racecourse, did the woodwork, carved the name of the Village Hall, and drew the animals to be mounted on the gates. These then went to James Buxton, of Chains Cottage, who, with the use of a plasma cutter, made metal cut-outs to be fixed onto the gates. They were then installed by Hugh and David.
New gates became necessary at events with small children present. The old ones were a safety hazard because children could wander out onto the road. To make them more interesting to the children the animal figures were mounted on them. In future, protected by the gates, children will be able to play in the village yard in safety.
